What is the Suzuki Method?

The Suzuki Method of musical instruction was developed, in Japan, in the late 1940's by Shinichi Suzuki. Its success came to the attention of music teachers in the United States in 1964. Since that time Suzuki instruction has spread all over the United States, with specially trained teachers in nearly every state.

The Suzuki method is modeled on the process a child uses to learn to talk. Many adults find in difficult to learn a foreign language, yet children of all nationalities learn to speak their native tongue with ease. The late Dr. Suzuki took advantage of this observation and developed a method for teaching the violin modeled on this process. He called this method the Mother-Tongue Approach, of Talent Education.
